Q&A

Florence Lightfoot

Q.

Your Name:

Florence Lightfoot

Q.

Where are you from and based (geographically)?:

Hitchin, Hertfordshire. I travel into London for work.

Q.

Who do you work for, and what’s your role?

Assistant Director within the Turnaround and Restructuring Strategy (TRS) team, at EY

Q.

How long have you been in the world of insurance?

For about five years now. I’ve worked at EY for 10 years, focusing on the Financial Services sector and specifically insurance for about half of that time. In 2021, I completed a 12-month secondment to EY’s Financial Services Corporate Finance team gaining experience across M&A and Debt Advisory and since returning to my Restructuring roots in late 2022, I have been focused on the Insurance run-off sector alongside Kevin Gill.

Q.

Tell us why and how you came to be involved with IRLA:

I’ve been something of a passive member for about the last five or six years, but Kevin very much encouraged me to get more involved. Since returning from my recent secondment, I’ve been to more events and started to built up my network. At a quiz event I found myself having a chat with Richard and Leslie-Ann about perhaps getting involved in YPG….and here we are today, with me now a member of the committee.

Q.

What do you think the benefits of YPG (now Future Leaders) are to people like you?

There’s great opportunity to learn from peers and share experiences, plus a chance to build connections and to gain some valuable experience away from your “desk job” contributing to the running of a professional association.

Q.

What do you feel about the rebrand to Future Leaders?

I think it’s such a positive move. It’s empowering and moves us forward with the times.

Q.

What do you hope to achieve as part of the committee?

I want to see more progress in terms of diversity I think it’s really important for women like me in the profession to have role models, and I do feel they’ve been somewhat lacking in any great number. I also want to be able to share my experiences from within the professional services arena.

Q.

And how do you feel about looking ahead to your first Congress?

I can’t wait. I’m really looking forward to being around my peers and meeting new people and exchanging ideas.
