Liam, one of this year's IRLA Fundraising Cyclists

With just days to go, the IRLA team of fundraising cyclists are now into final preparation for their big ride to Congress.

This year, a total of 26 riders will take part, representing some 11 companies in all.

In addition to those attending Congress, a number of others will join the effort and be partaking as representatives of the wider insurance community.

Chirag Shah from Zurich Legacy Solutions, who has been organising the popular activity, is excited to see everyone come together for the start of the challenging ride.

He said: “This is the point where it begins to feel a bit real, and you just hope you’ve done enough training.

I know for me personally, my training started well at the beginning of the year, but it tailed off due to work and personal commitments – so it isn’t going to be an easy undertaking.

“More than anything, I’m looking forward to seeing a really enthusiastic crowd of professionals from our arena, coming together for the start on Monday morning, and supporting one another throughout the route.”

He added: “Events like this always generate such a good spirit, and I know that will be seem again this year with the numbers of riders ever increasing.”

Chirag and his fellow cyclists have so far raised £908 before even formally getting in the saddle for the event.

This adds to an overall total for our IRLA chosen charity – Guide Dogs for the Blind – bringing the total to £7,928.

Leslie-Ann Giovnilli commented: “We’re all so proud of Chirag and the team for tackling the ride as a way of fundraising for our chosen cause.

“It will be great to see them all arrive at Congress and see how friendships have developed along the route.”

A few fun facts for you:

The 26 riders will burn approximately 75,000 calories.

Those arriving by bike will save around 11kg of Co2 per person, compared to driving, and 4kg compared to those taking the train.
